Surviving Story: Overcoming Fears and Enjoying Life in its Maximum Potential.

I had to go through a few experiences that have influenced me in becoming who I am. In November 1999 I had an accident that changed my life. I fell ten meters to the empyness from an artifitial rock climbing wall and I hit the floor, or I should say the ground or grass. As the doctors told me in most cases, people die instantaneously; others become quadriplegic or paraplegic and they loose consciousness. I was conscious most of the time (very painful) and remember feeling very cold and having shivers after falling. The ambulance took twenty minutes to arrive. I could have decided to let it go and rest in peace but my rock climbing partner kept me awake and helping with the breathing. Of course I did suffer physical traumas; I broke my coxes, two sacra lumbar vertebras, left ankle, and burned my arms and hands from the rope. I'm glad my head was fine!

When I arrived at the Emergency Room, many doctors and nurses came and started asking me for my name and contact information. I was in so much pain that I remembered answering to them "I won't say nothing until I get some morphine." After a few days I was scared when I realized that I could not feel my legs. It was probably one of the most scarry moments. The doctor told me that the vertebras were pinching the medulla. My natural reaction was start sending "energy" and "ordering" my toes to move. It took a lot of time and concentration. He asked me if I wanted to go for a year of rehabilitation or have surgery (which was a big risk). I decided to go for the first one. Part of the treatment was to have a cast corset and that I would be in a horizontal position for three long months without getting up. Can you imagine no bathroom, no shower? After the 3 months What a glorious day when I left the bed! I got a plastic corset for another 6 months and I was lucky that I finally could take a shower!. I had to do rehab almost every day for a year and I had to learn how to walk again. This time in my life helped me to exercise my willpower and discover my inner self. My mission now is to help others to overcome their fears and limitations because I know that we can do anything what we set our minds on.
And you can guess the rest, it took me 2 years to come back to rock climbing again.
