The Beginnings in Argentina
Sonia Quiroga Thomas was born a natural entrepreneur, and the evidence came prematurely. She learned early in life about challenges, being the only daughter of a very young single mom. Life in Argentina was tough without a dad to protect the family, and there were many days she remembers that they didn’t have anything to eat. At age twelve, she was selling Avon products to pay her high school expenses. At eighteen, she was the owner of her own magazine. In 1997 she had an Internet company in Buenos Aires, Argentina. There were many challenges that followed her successful beginning. In 1998, she was in a rock climbing accident that left her paralyzed in bed for a few months. Upon a thorough recovery, she now considers herself fortunate to have been thrust into this early experience as it developed critical survival instincts. At the time, nothing came easily for her; she learned to make good use of such experiences, to grow stronger, to pump up her adrenalin in the face of obstacles. Because of these and more, she has become skilled at constantly seeking opportunities to serve people in lesser situations than her own. Those who know her well call her unstoppable.
Sonia in USA
When Sonia first arrived in Utah from Buenos Aires in the year 2000, she knew no English. She had run her own consulting and marketing firm in Argentina, and she came here to acquire English proficiency as the key to working successfully with her American clients in her native land. She initially believed she might return from time to time to the United States for future vacations but had no plans to stay here permanently. However, as she became comfortable in using English she soon found herself the moving force behind the creation of a Hispanic / Latino / American business and professional alliance in Utah, using her own seventeen years of entrepreneurial experience to focus on bridging the gap between these two markets. This mission became crucial in a state where the Hispanic population continues to grow rapidly and now constitutes more than 20% of the consumer population, a process that is unstoppable.
The Power of One on One
Sonia, as a marketing-business consultant, has a long client list of companies that she has helped to introduce into the global market. The focus is on helping these companies to understand their multicultural customers, in order to make products and advertising content appealing to them through awareness of cultural differences. Because of her extensive experience working with non-profits and her massive networking connections, she has been focusing on helping her clients develop profitable use of a combination of social media, traditional media and non-profit work.
Her foundational and rock-solid talks and seminars on leadership, sales and business tools are powerful and full of proven ideas.
Sonia is currently a Board Member of BYU Management Society and President Elect for Soroptimist International in SLC, Utah. She has been a SCORE counselor, and she has 15 years of experience on mentoring and consulting all kinds of small businesses.
